A Cheesy Love Affair: Diving into Applebee’s Blue Moon Beer Cheese Dip

Oh, where do I even start? Applebee’s, that cozy corner of the culinary world where comfort food meets a good time, has done something spectacular. They’ve taken the concept of beer cheese dip, which let’s be honest, is already a masterpiece, and infused it with Blue Moon Ale. Yes, you heard that right. It’s like someone peeked into my diary under the “wildest dreams” section.

The Dip That Stole My Heart

This isn’t just any dip. It’s a velvety, rich concoction that pairs perfectly with whatever you decide to plunge into its gooey goodness. Pretzel sticks, chips, a spoon, your finger—no judgment here. It’s crafted with the kind of love and care that makes you wonder if Applebee’s has a secret wizard in the kitchen specializing in comfort food magic.

Why Blue Moon, You Ask?

Why Blue Moon Ale, of all the beers in the vast sea of brews? Well, it’s simple. Blue Moon has that unique, slightly citrusy note that cuts through the richness of the cheese, creating a flavor profile so divine, it feels like your taste buds are ascending to a higher plane of existence.

Unlocking the Secret

Let’s talk about how you’re going to make magic happen. Think about melting that cheese down into a warm, welcoming pool of deliciousness. Slow and steady wins the race here; you’re coaxing the cheese into a silky smooth dance, not a frantic mosh pit.

Now, introduce that beer like it’s the cheese’s long-lost love finally coming home. The beer’s role? It’s here to thin out the cheese a bit, add some depth of flavor, and give the dip that unique tang only a good brew can provide.

Bringing It All Together

As these two ingredients get cozy, think about what makes you happy. Garlic? A dash of mustard? Maybe some secret spices that make your taste buds sing? This is your dip, your masterpiece.

And while we’re keeping it casual, let’s not forget about texture. You want this dip to be the kind that hugs your chosen dipper just right. Not too thick, not too runny. Just perfect.

The Finale: Dive In With What Makes You Smile

So what conduit are you using to dip into this velvety creation? Could it be Bavarian-Style Artisan Gourmet Soft Pretzels from the Pretzel Company? Vegetable crudite or artisan sourdough? Maybe just your finger when no one’s looking?  I’m not here to judge. I’m here to encourage culinary bliss. Cheers!

  • 1 ½ cups of Vermont Sharp White Cheddar (Boar’s Head, pref.), freshly grated
  • 1 ½ cups of Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 2 TBL bleu cheese
  • 3 TBL unsalted butter
  • 1 + bottle of Blue Moon beer or a light, wheat beer
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • ½ tsp. Worcestershire
  • 2-3 dashed of Crystal Hot Sauce
  • Pinch garlic powder
  • Pinch white pepper
  • Pinch sugar
  • Pinch Kosher salt
  • Corn starch for thickening.

In a large sauté pan, on a medium heat, bring 1 bottle of Blue Moon to a simmer for 3 minutes.  Whisk in the heavy cream, Worcestershire, garlic powder, white pepper, sugar and kosher salt.

Make a cornstarch slurry with 2 TBL of cornstarch and 1/3 bottle of Blue Moon.  On a medium-high heat, slowly add the slurry in a thin stream just a bit at a time.  Constantly whisk the mixture, as the sauce thickens, until the desired thickened consistency.

Continuing to constantly whisk, add the butter, cheddar cheese, parmesan, bleu cheese and Crystal Hot Sauce until all the cheese is completely melted.  The sauce is ready to serve once it sticks to the back of a spoon.
